About

I am an Academic Professional in the Center for Educational Research for Global Sustainability in the Fulton Institute and Graduate School of Education, Arizona State University.

I was born and grew up on Long Island (NY), where I also enjoyed a long career as a teacher of Spanish, German, and English language arts in area schools. My last teaching position on Long Island was at the Garden City Middle School, which was situated literally across the street from the Cathedral of the Incarnation, the seat of the Long Island Diocese of the Episcopal Church.

After three years as a distance learning program administrator in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Instructional Technology at the Board of Cooperative Educational Services of Nassau County (LI, NY), I spent one year on the “mainland” as an Assistant Professor of Education at Concordia College in Bronxville, New York. There I taught courses in the history and philosophy of education, and curriculum and assessment, to students preparing to be teachers. This year was my first experience as faculty in Lutheran higher education where development of students’ faith and knowledge were equally important.

Since 2001 when I first arrived in Arizona, I have been singularly blessed with the privilege to think, read, research, and write in my work. My areas of interest include research methods and design; curriculum research, development, and administration; and educational leadership; especially as all relate to families who use more than one language.

I have tried to continue balancing faith with knowledge in a completely different environment from my roots because I believe that each informs the other and makes for a wiser person in the end. At times it has been a challenge, but with each challenge comes new accomplishments….always.
